The Friday Tipple: Loco for Locavore

We’re on vacation, Boozers. But, as you are ever in our boozy little hearts, we wanted to share with you our favorite vacation pastime: foraging for local tipples.  Currently we are planted along the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan and, even before our arrival, had staked out some breweries and distilleries that needed a visit. We are ever grateful to a charming little tome called Michigan Breweries by Paul Ruschmann and Maryanne Nasiatka, which certainly pointed us in the right direction.

Some of our favorites thus far include the Vanilla Java Porter from Atwater Brewery, the Hopquila (tequila made from hops) from New Holland Brewery, and a tasty little concoction at The Buck in St. Joseph, Michigan called a Cherry Beer Cocktail, which may be little more than a PBR mixed with cherry juice. Whatever — it tastes amazing and is only three bucks.

Cheers to locavores everywhere!
